Description[]

The Dragon class is a class of interdiction cruisers built by Celeschul Orbital Foundries.[1] The class was a large success with C.O.F. building thousands of Dragons.[2] It was notably in use by Continuance forces during the Terraforming War.[3] Some private groups like mercenary companies and even pirates also operate Dragon-class cruisers.[4]

The Dragon-class cruiser is a 70 m long diamond-shaped cruiser[5] with an oversized gravitic drive, capable of thousands of gees of acceleration, and solid unifield shields. The ship is armed with several multi-function weapons blisters, housing relativistic railguns, plasma cannons, smart missiles, multi-band lasers, and gravy guns. The blisters have overlapping fields of fire such that a Dragon-class cruiser can always face an enemy ship with at least four blisters, whatever the angle of approach.[6] The ship can be operated by as small as a 30-man crew, even without an A.I.[5]

The Dragon-class cruiser was originally designed with a main gun, a grav-braided plasma lance with a 45 m barrel and a dedicated 5 m annie plant. The main gun was only effective at short range against shielded targets. That shortcoming and a series of budget cuts led to C.O.F. removing the main gun from the mass-produced design.[7]

Notable Ships of the Class[]

  • Kitesfear - The Tagon's Toughs mercenary company's first known warship.
  • Cynthetic Certainty - the Toughs' latest warship to enter the company's fleet. Named & piloted AI Cindy, famously used for the Andromeda mission to stop the Pa'anuri from destroying civilization in the Milky Way galaxy.

Notes[]

  • Kitesfear, a Dragon-class cruiser, is the first spaceship to appear in the web comic.
  • The Dragon class is classified as a cruiser despite the fact that at 70 m long, it's only the size of a corvette. Cruisers are traditionally classified as much larger warships than corvettes.
