Eina-Afa

Exterior and interior views of Eina-Afa

Eina-Afa ("Synthetic Wind") is an ancient, planet-sized megahabitat. It was built twelve million years ago by the ancient Oafa, rediscovered a few years ago by the Prabstdi, and is currently claimed by the Neoafan Freehold. It orbits a red dwarf star in a planetary nebula solar system.

Structure[]

The main, habitable part of Eina-Afa is an air-filled, rotating cylinder eight thousand kilometers in diameter and twelve thousand km long[1], often described as a "can full of sky." The can features a hollow spindle in the center, roughly 200 km across and open to space on the inside, that serves as a space dock and interior light source. The station has sixteen docking facilities along it's 2,000 kilometer docking tunnel.[2] Several rings of huge struts link the spindle to the can hull, each strut augmented by several cables that are themselves nearly a kilometer in diameter. The struts function as supporting members and giant elevators. All of Eina-Afa's structural components are composed mostly of post-transuranic alloys[3], which both lend them the structural strength to contain such a vast pressurized volume, and render them immune to erosion by the can's active weather systems.

When Eina-Afa was built, it was stocked with a lithosphere of imported metal-rich rock at least eighty kilometers deep, a layer of shallow ocean over that, and enough atmosphere to fill the entire remaining volume of the can, all the way up to the spindle. Clever engineering allowed the atmosphere to occupy that entire 3500-km-deep volume under tropospheric conditions, rather than settling into a ~10-km-deep layer as it does on Earth-like planets.[4] This unnaturally vast sky would be a paradise for the drifting Oafa.

Left to its own devices, the deep, spinning atmosphere of the can would form vast, sideways, rolling hurricanes that would scour the surface clean. To prevent this, a 1000-km-high baffle was installed somewhere in each ring of struts, breaking up the storms as they circled the can before they could strengthen into hurricanes.[5] These baffles, nicknamed "godwalls," double as storage vaults. One godwall was cut down by T'kkkuts-Afa (see History below), allowing a pair of rolling storms to form in that ring[6]. These storms, now known as Akkrok ("Acid Hammer") and Kutsko ("Alkali Anvil"), eventually eroded a vast annular trench in the lithosphere. This growing trench gradually swallowed the original world-spanning shallow sea, creating a deep Stormring Ocean surrounded by dry land[7], while the rock dust ejected from it settled on the cables, struts and godwalls to nourish continent-sized cloud forests.[8]

The exterior "fins" girdling the can house ancillary equipment, including Teraport Area Denial[9] and probably also solar power collection. They may also act as rotation stabilizers. The interior is protected by automated defenses, including missiles and bots.

Notable Locations & Entities[]

  • Jumpstar Prime - A recent and fast growning joint city created by the Neoafans and Tagon's Toughs Mercenary Company. It is the center of biological civilization on the Habitat. It it the home the Mercenary company, a university, and other businesses.
  • Celeschul Orbital Foundries - Franchise of a large shipyard, expanded to Jumpstar Prime.[10]

History[]

Origin of Eina-Afa[]

The space station was meant to be a refuge, due to the Oafa's losing battle with the Pa'anuri's ,the "lightless wind", relentless assaults. A vessel intended to carry the Oafa's people and knowledge past the thresh hold of mass galactic extinction event predict by archologial digs.[11] As part of the strategy was shutdown all it's Annie plants on the station. However, the Oafa would end up fading away due to stagnation but its unclear. During this time, T'kkkuts-Afa would end up cutting down the Godwall and allow for pair of cyclones inside the interior of the Station in hopes that life intelligent would evolve within the station.[12] The unpowered station would be left to drift. Over course of the millenniums, the station's AI T'kkkuts-Afa "Broken Wind", would end up forgetting much of it's own past.[13]

Rediscovery by the Prabstdi & Neoafa Recovery Efforts[]

The Prabstdi would discover the space station adrift in near emery solar system, with red dwarf star. Neoafa, reengineered ascendant of the ancient Oafa worked engaged in relations. The Prabstadi worked to restore limited access to the interior of the station. However, the Neoafa went into debt with the Prabstdi, and they sought external help to try keeping the great debt owed to the Prabstdi consuming their claim to their ancestors space station. They would hire the Tagon's Toughs via their commander's father to invite him and his company to exterminate the "vermin" that evolve in the space stations after millions years of a drift. However, the interior's automated defenses were still active including a ancient Teraport Area Denial equipment and dangerous bots and missiles platforms. As Toughs, Neofans and survivors of the Prabstadian expedition arrived in core of the station, they would have to use stealth not using annie plants to reach the interior's defenses.[14] It was discovered that defenses would not attack Oafan built space craft, which Neofa had restored example of one showed them method of accessing the station.

It would be Ennesby and newly restored Tagii negotiating with the now active AI, T'kkkuts-Afa, translated in as "Broken Wind", to cease hostilities.[15]

New Custodian of Eina-Afa: Chinook[]

Negoations with the AIs would result in T'kkkuts-Afa would assume control of a mothballed warship named the Broken Wind, and Tagii would be given caretakership of the station.[16]
