Peri Gugro

Clan Mother Peri Gugro is a female Fobott'r. She served in Sanctum Adroit before enlisting with Tagon's Toughs. After the events of Book 18: Mandatory Failure, she founded Clan Gugro in Outer Uuple, and retired from her work as a mercenary.

History[]

Peri Gugro was introduced as a colleague of Adroit Lance Sami Tandersil, another Fobott'r serving in Sanctum Adroit. When Tandersil left Sanctum Adroit to enlist with Tagon's Toughs, she took two friends and their partners with her[1], including Peri and her partner Ohndo[2].

Peri's squad (led by Corporal Andy Thnempha[3], under Sergeant Schlock[4]) served on Cynthetic Certainty under the command of Captain Kaff Tagon. Her first combat mission was in the Urtheep Industries Returns Receiving dock, fighting a nanite incursion of rogue ALL-STAR agents. She was off-duty when the attack began, charged into the fight naked[5], and was shot through the chest[6] with two medium-velocity antipersonnel rounds[7]. Combat medic Neeka saved her life and rebuilt her musculature, but she had difficulty retraining her fine motor control, and had poor aim with her upper left arm even five months later.[8].

Corporal Gugro was contacted by her sister Viki Gugro, who was working as a medic on the Uuplechan construction ship Gruuli's Legacy. The ship was currently engaged in search and rescue at the site of a refinery and space habitat in Outer Uuple (which had been destroyed by an intergalactic Pa'anuri Long Gun from Andromeda), in the process of recovering and resuscitating more than sixty thousand casualties.[9]

The isolationist Uuplechan laws prohibited outsiders from offering assistance (paid or unpaid), but through a legal loophole Viki was able to recruit her sister (along with the rest of Tagon's Toughs) under an exemption for "close family".[10] Unfortunately, their efforts were hindered by the Uuplechan Patriot Armada[11], a xenophobic Uuplechan militia faction, who wanted the mostly non-Uuplechan victims to remain dead. They had been unofficially invited by the Vice-Armador of Outer Uuple Traffic Control to "aggressively discourage" the mercenaries from entering.[12] After discovering that the UPA had engaged in piracy, murder, and desecration of their Fobott'r victims' tlumnphs, Tagon's Toughs captured the UPA flagship and its commander, Shiplord Srabben. The UPA prisoners were transferred to Maxim 39, and died when that ship was destroyed by another shot from the Pa'anuri Long Gun.

After the Maxim's destruction, Tagon ordered a full retreat, but Peri Gugro refused the order and remained on Gruuli's Legacy to keep helping the relief effort.[13] As the number of revived disaster victims grew, she greeted them with a speech and inspired them to assist in the recovery.[14].

The head of the Fobott'r hierocracy, Greatmother Kathlumira Tetlumbrathi, entered Outer Uuple with a battlegroup to personally take custody of the tlumnphs recovered from the UPA. She formally acknowledged the founding Clan Gugro by Peri Gugro, whose membership included Peri, her Fobott'r squadmates, as well as six thousand survivors.[15] She noted that a Fobott'r clan with non-Fobott'r members was unprecedented, and that she had waited decades for a clan mother who could grow beyond their traditions.[16]
