Continuance's 6th Fleet, Rebel fleet fighting Celeschul government forces.
The Terraforming War was a human civil war in the Celeschul system which was fought between Celeschul loyalists of the Continuance Faction and the rebel Terran Formation Front in 3069. Both Karl Tagon and Kaff Tagon fought in this war, on the loyalist side.[1] The extent and motivations of the war have never been fully revealed, but it features large in the history and the relationship of the two Tagons.
Background[]
The war was started by the Terran Formation Front, who used weaponized nanobots to assassinate many senior officers of the Continuance Faction in a first strike.[2] Among their targets were Colonel Karl Tagon and his extended family attending a birthday party, of whom Karl and his son Kaff were the only survivors. Other key military, political and industrial figures were targeted as well, and according to Karl 95% of the targets were killed.[3] As one of the few survivors of the senior officers, Colonel Karl Tagon was promoted to General overnight.[4]
Although the full background is never revealed, what can be plausibly inferred from the name of the conflict and its belligerents is that it was fought over whether to terraform Celeschul (favored by the TFF), or to continue coexisting with the aquatic Schuul (favored by the Continuance).
The Gatekeepers closed down the Celeschul wormgate during the conflict, forcing the system to fend for itself for three years.[5] According to Karl, this cut the Continuance Faction off from Sol-side resupply, implying that theirs was the side supported by the UNS.[6]
After years of fighting, the Continuance Faction won the war. General Karl Tagon was widely credited with this victory.[1]
The Continuance Faction's Sixth Fleet was shattered during the war, its remnants deserting and regrouping as pirates. Continuance Admiral Keflavik was able to turn the pirates against each other and defeat them in detail.[7]
Known Key Individuals of the Conflict[]
Commodore Knutsov
- Commodore Knutsov - Celeschul Defense Service Officer who's command coordinated forces from the loyalist Continuance faction's War Room. Officers under his command would play role keep CDS forces ahead of the enemy.[8]
- General Karl Tagon - Father of Kaff Tagon, he would be one the surviving key military officers to lead Celeschul Defense forces. His entire family would be wiped out in opening salvos of the war that killed most of Celeschul's leading people.[9] He would eventually be roll into the Continuance.
- Admiral Keflavik - He was one of the leading flag officers commanding the Continuance fleet against the rebels Terrans.[10]

- Origin of the Name of the War
- It is unclear why the war was named "Terraforming War". In previous recounts in early webcomics strips, this war was mention in plural as in "Terraforming Wars". However later recounts of the conflict point to being singular war.
- Unknown effects outside the Celeschul Solar System
- It's unclear if the Terraforming War was a intergalactic war or one fought strictly in and around the Celeschul System. It is assumed from what information that can be found in the Webcomic, that it is the later. The war is remembered among people outside the conflict as significant event within the human civilization (UNS).
- Rank of the 6th Fleet's commander
- Former Continuances office is not named no is his rank is given. It's assumed that the officer was a flag officer of the 6th Fleet. It's assumed his rank was Admiral given size of the formation. It should be noted he is the only rebel to be formally named.
- Missing information about the Terraforming War
- As part of the Book 14 & Book 15 Kickstart to fund publishing of these two Schlock Mercenary graphic novels. A feature bonus story was written taking place during the Terraforming War in book 14. This story has not been published on schlockmercenary.com website, thus it is not widely known what information was in this story. It's contents has not been added to this article.[11] due to copyright.
- Role of the UNS
- Its been said that Celeschul is a independent nation verses being part of the UNS. Being ally of the Celeschul government. It is unclear why much of what UNS's elements, ships, uniforms, were in use / seen in glimpse of the past.
